Fixed Gears in Japan

I am looking at lots of fixed gear bicycles in Japan this trip. It seems that this is all the rage over here. I have seen this one in a local shop and it seems changing the parts to trick them out and make them look unique is a bit deal. Lots of people seem to have cut down rider bars on them that are quite narrow. All in all this is a very cool thing to see and there seem to be a few less scooters around town (Tokyo).

I have not had a fixed gear bike in a long time but I am thinking that this would make a great commuter and around town bike for home. I may check this out a bit more once I return to the US.

Indoor Cycling

This has to take indoor trainers to a whole new level. A new treadmill for you bicycle. I am sure this is not something that we will see at the local shop anytime soon but some pro riders have been using it. Check out Christian Vandevelde having a go at it.

Got a new bike

Well got a new bike a few weeks ago. I had been working on fixing up my old mountain bike to head out to the trails again. It seemed to be getting more and more expensive so I ended up getting a new bike instead.

There are so many new things out there since I was last into mountain biking. Seems that most bikes have disc brakes these days and full suspension is more common that ever before. There are also more categories of riding now. Seems that the days of Downhill or XC are over. It is all very confusing to me but I opted for a Full Suspension XC bike. Small bit of travel in the back just enought to soak up some of the rough stuff but not enough to make the bike weigh more than a car.

More thoughts on this as I find the time to gather some links to all the latest goodies that are out there. PS.. got a Cannondal (never ever thought I would have one of those) Scalpel 1000.
